Former local govt councillor, current govt relations and policy guy, writes about local government at www.localaotearoa.nz, overly enthusiastic runner. 🏃‍♂️👟
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari taku toa he toa takitini.
(My success is not mine alone, but it is the strength of many.)

Nearly 100 years to the day since my grandma completed her teacher training, I've just received my final marks and have completed my Graduate Diploma of Teaching. 😁👨‍🎓

Honestly, it’s very funny how wrong this guy is.

Every single council uses the term too

Received some fan mail this morning from someone who’s well regarded in the local government media scene who evidently has no idea what he’s talking about. 🤣

Ultra New Zealand already missing its first deadline with no announcement of its line up today as promised…

Guess who might be a bit excited by Ultra coming to Wellington judging by my Spotify Wrapped 🪩

Saw more runners and cyclists this morning out around Oriental Bay using the great shared pathway than cars were using the road. So by the logic of anti-cycleway nutters, based on my single anecdote we must now replace all roads with shared pathways 🏃‍♂️🚴‍♂️🤣

Latest Local Aotearoa post really riled up the tinfoil cooker racists it seems 🤣

Back to campus for the last four days (and a couple of assessments) of my Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary). It’s been a full on year with a busy few days to come.

Next stop - finding a teaching gig for 2026. 🤞🚊🎓🏫

What sort of fresh hell is Metlink serving up ads before I can search for PT information 🙃

About to go join the traffic chaos… wish we could avoid it but today’s trip is a necessity. Surprised Waka Kotahi hasn’t postponed their TG works given the new issues on SH59.

First time I’ve had to abort a run due to lightning. ⛈️ Saw one flash a 1km into my run and didn’t think much of it. Saw the second a bit closer and decided to check the lightning map. Were both just off Kāpiti Island which was about 5km from where I was, so turned a did a shorter loop
close to home.

Had a flying visit to Havelock North today for a job interview 👨‍🏫

Never noticed on Kāpiti Coast District Council's flood mapping project portal they have this cool tool showing the extent of housing development over the past century. Demonstrates how Kāpiti has grown over the decades.

I think we can safely conclude that Waikanae Beach’s NIMBYs have completely jumped the shark 🙄🦈

If you’re going to make a case about how important local government is, maybe making your myth busting point about a service that plenty of councils let private contractors do instead of delivering themselves isn’t the endorsement of councils existence you think it is 🤦‍♂️

Glad I braced up the back fence yesterday seeing as the neighbours removed all their trees which I suspect were holding it in place. Given that two other sides of it have already blown over in the past couple of years, and we can’t afford to replace or fix it anytime soon, hopefully it holds…

Maybe instead of punching down on young people who are struggling to find employment during an economic downturn, the Government’s MPs should get out of the Koru Lounge and actually be in Parliament doing their job.

Rare misstep for Christopher Luxon

Our household has done our democratic duty and voted in our local government elections. 🫡🗳️

Love local democracy! ❤️

Kāpiti News’ editor and our local affordable housing trust absolutely trolling the selfish Waikanae NIMBYs.

Wonder how long until Luxon’s caucus has a “dynamic performance conversation” with him…

Can't build more homes in existing urban areas. Can't build more homes outside of existing urban areas. People wonder why central government had to step in after decades of politicians appeasing NIMBYs stuffed Aotearoa's housing supply and affordability. 🤦‍♂️

Candidate from the purported party of free speech weirdly triggered by me exercising my free speech to call my blog Local Aotearoa.
