In L.O.R.E., my soon-to-be #ttrpg, you finish character creation by choosing your Starter Pack which grants you all of your early items, spare currency, and even some potential property or assets, like a war horse or a residence.

And yes, the guidebook has rules for property baked into equipment!

Druids in this game function off less powers, but each ability is designed to scale, and usually has more than one use, giving them an elemental-bender feel instead of a nature wizard.

There are 10 specific Elements in LORE, each with their own unique powers—none of which overlap with other magic.

Last up, we've got Progression Classes. These Classes require at least 12 levels of previous investment, and take you through your higher levels of play, all the way up to a Mythic Tier, complete with all sorts of game-breaking powers and abilities.

These also fit archetypes, like Base Classes.

Hybrid Classes combine two Base Classes to form something entire unique, such as the Valkyrie, which is an Acolyte/Witch Combo.

Niche classes fulfill a specific... niche! Suprise. An Ark Knight is a front-line, melee caster, with a specialty in spell swording, or a GISH.

Advanced Classes are natural progressions from their base. A Rogue can become an Assassin, Duelist, or Thief, or a Fighter a Champion, Vanguard, or Tactician.

These classes are your low-to-mid level paths, covering 10 levels of play and forming the core of your character, as well as their paths.

Base Classes are more archetypes than anything. Each only has 2 levels, but they set you up for the rest of your career. Once you've gained enough levels in one, or multiples, you can then level into Advanced or Prestige Classes, which is where identities form.

And it's where shit gets wild.

Alright, let's talk about some #ttrpg shenanigans.

L.O.R.E., my soon-to-be-released project, is a mixture of various d20 editions, a bit of D&D, and a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics/Ogre Battle.

It's greatest feature? Classes. In the guidebook alone, there's almost 80, or so.

More? See ⬇️

Sometimes I like to pretend I'm good at TTRPG dev, then I do something like include the ability for players to engage with a mechanic used for collecting tolls.

One of my favorite things to do when dev'ing LORE, my D&D adjacent TTRPG, is creating powers or features that let you recreate any world or moment from media.

This power, from the Naming Origin of magic, is a specific ode to everyone's favorite Gray wizard:

Time for some more LISTS. I'm stuck in the editing process for LORE (we're very close to playtesting), but I decided to take a break and instead create tables to easier list and find Feats.

The initial guide has some 225 Feats.

BEHOLD:

Just me puttering about with more LORE things. Since this game is a D&D 5e/3.5 hybrid (Kinda? Not really, but yes) I wanted to bring back one of my favorite aspects 3.5, Leadership!

I love sub systems, and building a crunchy games lets me add all the mechanics.

All of them.

The joys of making your own game. Behold, the corner stone of LORE, my TTRPG: BERSERKER THROW BIG ROCK.

Our last Advanced Class is the Priest, our spell and social-oriented Acolyte, focused on magic, support, and healing.

Priests don't do well in martial situations, but dominate via casting, and have a fast power progression along with some unique support abilities.
March 16, 2025 at 12:05 AM
Clerics are craftable hybrids, like Paladins, but focus more on support and powers over their more militant cousins. They gain more Domains than other class, are multi-role, and focus on Recitations, or chants that imbue themselves and others will divine powers.

Think Warhammer.
March 15, 2025 at 11:57 PM
Paladins in LORE are divine militants, honing their connection to their Divine Source in exchange for unique powers, albeit at a slower power progression.

They're hybrid casters, here, as you'd expect, but are stringent in their service, losing access to most of their abilities if they fall.
March 15, 2025 at 11:53 PM
There's a lot to go over here, specifically each Base Class like this has 32 levels worth of class.

The initial first 2 levels of Acolyte set up for your Advanced Class, granting you your first Domain, Prayers, and entering into contract with your Divine Source.
March 15, 2025 at 11:45 PM
LORE is getting very close to completion, so let's do some showcasing.

Let's look at some classes!

Today, we've got the Acolyte, the Base Class for Divine casters. Acolytes have the potential to become Clerics, Paladins, or Priests, then at higher levels, Hierophants.

If I'm only telling a story it doesn't matter. Being a Lich is a plot point, I can do whatever a Lich does in the story.

In a game, though, I want something that comes of becoming a Lich. Preexisting mechanics for this gives me an immediate, and quantifiable, response to "What now?"

Why bother, though? Eventually, you can send an Einheri onward to serve your deity, which grants you temporary, or permanent bonuses, but you only receive these if you have a positive relationship with these souls.

Valkyire not only in name.
March 12, 2025 at 5:42 PM
Once you have at least 1 soul as an Enheri, you gain two potential options for it. You can either graft it to your soul, using its type to enhance your own abilities, or summon it to fight alongside you.

While an Enheri is summoned you can foster your relationships.
March 12, 2025 at 5:41 PM
Your primary features revolve around your Einherjar, though, always making you a summoner of some kind, a concept handled by the Collect Soul feature.

You can use this feature to combat spirits or ghosts, also, or simply bring peace to the fallen.
March 12, 2025 at 5:39 PM
A lot of the class design from LORE ( #ttrpg ) comes from some of my favorite games: Ogre Battle (MotBQ), and FFT; especially the art.

The Valkyrie Class is a combination martial/summoner, allowing you to fight up close and summon Einherjar for tasks as you need them.

I think Hallucinate qualifies.

...multiple aspects that would suffer if you continued to favor Bard or Wilder in the Skáld's place.

Taking it a step further, you gain even greater customization within the class. Your Skaldic Focus feature is geared toward one of three roles: martial, caster, or social.
