The way it was explained to me is that there are different cognitive tests that screen for different things. I wasn't screened for dementia and they didn't care about my IQ. Every test was clearly assessing a specific cognitive ability. They were looking for outliers.

To be insufferably pedantic, I took an IQ test as part of my cognitive test. His was certainly a cognitive test for dementia. Mine was looking for other issues. My processing speed is two standard deviations below my perceptual reasoning and verbal comprehension scores. That's abnormal.

I'm still irrationally angry about the word "skeet". It makes me think of "gleek" for some reason.

Like:

She asked, "Why are you angry?"

Because we're not questioning whether she asked. The question is what she asked.

I think of it as similar to a parenthetical in math. If it's inside the quotation marks, it feels like it should only apply to what is in the quotation marks. If it's outside, it applies to the whole sentence.

That may not be what the rule is about. It's just how I think of it.

Being from New Orleans, living in San Diego, I see overlap in these cultures so much. The accordian. The death imagery. Mixing indigenous and Catholic spirituality. There's even an analog of the Mardi Gras King Cake called Rosca de Reyas. I love it so much and I want this to be a nod to that.
