Because actual players who care don't tell you. They show you. And you're not looking for those who "like" the game or say nice things. You're looking for people criticizing the game and offering unasked for feedback. They are the ones who really care.

And even before you get to that point - how do you know if you should kill an idea or continue?
You need someone to play your game and not want to give you the device back. They need to want it so badly they don't even know why.

The point to it is: The best studios have videos of players to watch every 2 or so weeks, independent of any particular reason.
It's so easy to get trapped in the blackbox of gamedev without realizing it - and only players can get you out.

Slice & Dice is a great roguelike.
Or Hoplite for roguelike tactics.
For cuteness, Campfire Cafe is also good.
