We were also lucky to be allowed inside the New Safe Confinement (NSC), a structure set up in 2016 to confine the remains of reactor N°4 of the Chornobyl NPP, which was destroyed in the 1986 disaster. I had never thought I'd once see the original sarcophagus, it felt like an immense privilege.

With 2 colleagues, we've just spent 3 days in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, where we interviewed scientists, representatives of the agency tasked with protecting and managing the Zone, as well as an adorable couple of elderly residents who came back to their home despite the order to evacuate.

This is Makar, a 6 year-old kid from Slobozhanske, Kharkiv oblast, who, instead of drawing angels, chose to draw the map and flag of his country and, as he called them “the stolen oblasts of Ukraine.” His mom told me that he is able to tell which guns are being used at any given time by ear.

To celebrate moving to a platform that’s less toxic and has slightly fewer Nazis, here’s a picture of Rosa and me. I found her in the streets about three weeks ago, starving, cold and caked in dirt. I am pleased to say that she’s made a full recovery.
