"Have you asked to review the body camera of the involved officers?" he was asked. "No," Bovino said. "Have you reviewed any reports related to the incident?" he was asked. "I can't remember," Bovino said. "Have you spoken with any of the officers about their actions?" he was asked. "Not to my knowledge," Bovino said. "Okay, and yet you maintain that their actions were justified?" he was asked. "I've not seen any evidence to indicate that any deployment of less lethal was not exemplary or more than exemplary," Bovino said. That deposition led to U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis restricting agents' use of tear gas, pepper-balls and physical force. Her order has since been paused by a federal appeals court, and Bovino has since moved his focus to Charlotte.

WORCESTER – Agencies within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) intend to implement a comprehensive plan to target Spanish-speaking churches across the country during the upcoming holiday season between Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, and Christmas, Dec. 25. Three U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) attorneys, including one assigned to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the district of Massachusetts, one to the district of Rhode Island office, and the third posted at an office in New York told This Week in Worcester they received briefings on the plan. The attorney in the New York office spoke in depth about the plan being recently updated to include mosques and liberal synagogues in the wake of Zohran Mamdani’s recent win in the New York City mayor’s race. The attorneys spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution. All three said the plan is not regional to New England, but a nationwide strategy. The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has fired several U.S. Attorneys and staff members since the beginning of its term in January, including two forced out this month in Miami. Both attorneys also said that the Trump administration is pushing high-ranking Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) officials for public support of the plan, including Hispanic pastors. Two Hispanic pastors who lead Southern Baptist churches in New England say that SBC President Clint Pressley and its executive board received briefings on the plan and discussed it with Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller and White House Border Czar Tom Homan.

At St. Joseph Hospital, there are signs throughout the campus that state no weapons are allowed on the premises. The exceptions are law enforcement and corrections officers. The ICE contractor was permitted to carry a firearm while on duty, accompanying a detainee to the hospital.

William Dudley Pelley (1890-1965) studied Hitler's philosophies and speeches, and was inspired to form the Silver Legion of America (also known as the "Silver Shirts") in 1933. The Silver Legion was a paramilitary organization that was modeled off of Hitler's Brownshirts. The organization portrayed themselves as a Protestant Christian movement created to restore a new Christian led society and government. (Courtesy of University of Washington, Special Collections, SOC13714) Zachary traveled the country preaching the Silver Shirt cause, which positioned Jews as the enemy and Pelley as the man who would lead his followers against communism to a new constitutional authoritarian state, of which Pelley would be the God-anointed ruler, a “white king,” he called himself. While claiming the legion was not violent, the group bought smuggled arms from the military, engaged in training, wore uniforms and, in one case, Zachary pledged that if no one else would kill President Franklin Roosevelt, he would do it personally. On July 18, 1938 Zachary spoke at the Red Men’s Hall on Riverside Avenue in Spokane, and 700 protesters showed up, too, for “Spokane’s first anti-fascist demonstration,” the Spokesman-Review reported. Signs read, “Spokane wants no more Silver Shirt fascism meetings” and “This is Spokane, not Berlin.”
