It's funny because there's no version of Reign that starts adventuring in his home citystate. R'zehn comes from Ul'dah but starts as a Marauder. Reina grows up the same way Reign does, but goes to Ul'dah to become a gladiator specifically because her parents forbid it.

The adventurer was a veteran lancer which is why Reign decided to go to Gridania to start his adventures instead of staying close to home and starting off in Limsa.

The only reason he survived was because an adventurer happened to be on the same ship and dove in after him. They pulled him out and back onto the ship, and were the first person Reign saw when he woke up. Which is part of what inspired him to become an adventurer himself.
