I'm in a lifecycle TSP fund, so I don't stress much about any of this.

It just seems to me that at some point, those "buying the dip" are going to find that the dip will be much bigger and the bounce back will take much longer than they expect.

Using a poker analogy, "retail investor" = "fish"

... and from the pro's perspective, the best fish are the ones who think they're too good to be fish.

Hard to imagine this ending well for most of them.

To the extent that effective organizing against fascism will happen (and is happening), it will have to include many people who these "activists" currently spend most of their time arguing with.

... that (among other things) is something they just don't seem to understand. 🙄

Dude if you really believe that the fascist state is "imminent" then just having a Bluesky account where you complain about the fascist leader seems pretty dumb.

MAGA wants to be fascists, but they're not competent enough to pull it off.

What's even more frustrating to me is that while this shit is now legal, in most places I can't start a home poker game without risking a literal police raid.

The thing is, I'm not sure now is the time to boycott them.

But when we get back to sanity, the last thing in the world anybody needs to put up with is the NYTimes and Washington Post suddenly reverting to "holding power accountable" or whatever BS they'll use to justify their double standard.

Or even going a little further back, that the great financial crisis started while Barack Obama was already in office.

Many of them will swear on their children's lives that Joe Biden was President during the entirety of COVID.

Nothing surprises me about those whose brains have been fried by years of mainlining right-wing propaganda.

I've often thought that the easiest way for my mental well-being to improve dramatically would be to wake up one morning and find out I was locked out of ALL of my social media accounts.

What's the downside?

I'm pretty sure we are in Trump 2.0 precisely because "both sides are awful" was the primary message many casual voters who don't pay attention to politics had going into the 2024 election.

I heard it from several people in the days after Trump's victory.

I wish more prominent people on this site would turn off their comments ... that's where most of depressing stuff happens.

I personally wouldn't care if I couldn't comment.

I'd love to have a feed with just the people I'm interested in reading, no comments.

Probably not.

But depending on what dumb shit the President or other Republicans say between now and then, maybe 60 votes isn't 100% guaranteed a second time.

I'll believe this shutdown is over when the bill is signed by Trump.

It wasn't much different last time Trump was President when the users here were still on Twitter. So many were convinced that somehow the 2016 election was going to be declared "invalid" and Hillary Clinton would magically become President instead. 🙄

Question: is there another part of this process that requires cloture (60 votes) before this passes the Senate and moves on to the House?

The day of, then the day after the election in November, both a 73 year old independent lady who I worked the election day polls with, then my 16 year old daughter the next day, remarked "it doesn't matter, both sides are terrible anyway" about Trump's victory.

A big part of the reason we're living through Trump 2.0 is so many potential Dem voter's unrealistic expectations about what is possible if Dem politicians just "really, really tried harder". 🙄

The "both sides are awful" message definitely resonated with casual political "news" followers last year.

It's now open season. A lot more people are going to discover their shocking premium increases over the next month.

A successful vote to extend the subsides is more likely in Dec than now.

... unless we were just supposed to keep the govt closed indefinitely until a "yes" vote?
