The older I get and the more tech bullshit takes I see around me, the more I understand Jobs throwing a tantrum and shouting at people when they presented him with something he knew was dumb.

People: “you should start vacuuming when your baby falls asleep so they get used to it”

People if you would start vacuuming when they fall asleep:

I wish we could get a lightweight version of Xcode. I love all the features it has, but most of the time I need to edit text, build and run, for which Xcode gets really heavy on larger projects. I am experimenting with nvim and other possible solutions, but they all seem super hacky.

So my view is actually the opposite of yours - I think software engineers are completely safe ignoring all the LLM hype for now.

If LLMs win? They'll quickly learn how to use them, and they won't have to suffer through today's shitty LLMs.

If LLMs lose? They didn't waste time.

Win win

For those keeping score, Bellingcat, The New York Times Visual Investigation Team, & Washington Post's Visual Forensic team have all published analysis showing the ICE shooter wasn't in the path of Renee Nicole Good’s vehicle when he shot her, contradicting statements by the President & his cronies

Abolish and prosecute ICE. They did a murder in broad daylight today. Imagine what they're doing in the closed facilities we're somehow not even allowed to see.

There are two embarrassment types when it comes to people commenting under videos. The first one is people commenting that something is super cool when it is clearly AI. The other, much worse, is people commenting that the video is AI when it clearly is not.

When people argue that renewable energy sources are too expensive, remember that we don’t invade countries to seize wind farms and there are no solar cartels. Fossil fuels have enormous geopolitical, public health, and climate externalities.

Hardware getting better and better (i.e. faster) was supposed to make out computers so much faster, but all it does is create the argument that "we don't need to optimise for performance, the hardware is capable enough". In turn my iPad Air with M1 chip is barely usable with iOS 26.

I am the type of person whos personality shift with the last tv show they watched.

Shouldn’t have started the Sopranos.

I’m getting tired of the programming community on socials. I got hooked on this because of the awesome things I saw people doing, and wanting to learn and do cool things too. Now I have to sift through 50% of posts being about how someone made an AI do their work.

Share your cool algorithm doing dumb shit! ! I wanna see gorgeous animations for some indie dev’s landing screen. I want to dig into someone’s open sourced project doing some cool shit with SQLite. Share how a language feature came in handy! Ask a niche question !!! Publish a blog post !! !

Idgaf if you don’t know the language but got an LLM to do things for you!! You didn’t learn anything! You didn’t earn my time reading your post by doing anything cool, you got something else to spit out some code even you don’t understand!

Once again - only publicly funded media is a sustainable check on authoritarian governments.

There are no "good guys" in corporate media, they're at best just temporarily aligned with the public, by accident.

Billionaires and politicians can't control what real journalists publish.

I am often working on projects which model their screen state as a large struct/enum. That is a great way to structure state, but is super annoying to mock for previews. You either call the init inside all of you previews, which is tiresome, or create mocks by hand, which is even worse. [...]

People way smarter than me, is there a way to make my SwiftUI Preview see a macro generated static function on given type? Currently it doesn't see anything the macro generates.

A post about two completely unrelated phenomena:

People who make a living by teaching/posting something instead of actually doing it tend to have dumbass opinions.

Many programming influencers push super easy solutions such as delegating everything to AI.

Oh wait I meant completely related, sorry

I don't know if this is something new or not, but the

Candidate would match if '*Type*' conformed to '*Protocol*'

error diagnostic is super goated.

I am 100% sure Hegseth and all the other fuckers are counting on Trump not stepping down after his second term, because only a completely brainless person would be willing to do the stuff they are doing if they didn’t know they were covered from future prosecution.

Huge part why I want to work at Apple is to see if they actually use stuff like SwiftData or if there are some great tools unavailable to us mere mortals.

Of course Nvidia is not Enron, they are Enron merged with Cisco in 2001.

Overbuilt infra + accounting trickery = international financial crisis here we go.

Every company and individual investing money and effort into AI values short term profits over morality and deserves every bit of what’s coming for them when the bubble inevitably pops.

I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

You know what? I am 100% sure functional previews inside Xcode would be of much greater productivity boost to everybody than Coding Assistant.
