I can't believe I'm saying this, but after 10 years on #firefox, all the AI bullshit #mozilla is adding recently is making me look into alternatives. Anyone got some recommendations?

Man, to a #valve_index owner, the announcement of #steamframe is such a disappointment. Compared to the Index, the tracking (no lighthouses even as an option, really??), controller design (all they had to do is change the button layout and leave the rest of knuckles alone), and speakers look […]

Turns out that despite my unsucessful previous attempts, with quite some fiddling, you can in fact get #rekordbox running on #linux through #wine. It's janky af, has high audio latency and doesn't detect the hardware controllers, but for quick library management it should be usable.

Though for […]

Given how much we overscoped on complexity of our tax collection game, these are surprisingly decent #ludumdare58 results.

thesis: vs code is a game engine. consider:
- produced by a billion dollar company
- renders using opengl
- optimized like dogshit
- ships using a cursed runtime inheited down generations
- people hate it but use it anyway
- updates every few weeks, if something breaks the developer mostly just […]

Seems like our #ludumdare58 game is giving our game designer quite a head scratcher. He's still figuring new things out and tweaking the numbers 3 days after the end of the jam.

Given that we usually immediately drop the project after hitting submit, I guess simulating an entire economy has […]

It's interesting to see how despite only 300 fewer entries in #ludumdare58 than in #ludumdare57, the homepage feed felt a lot more dead than what I'm used to from previous iterations of the jam.

And it lives! After 3 days of questioning if we'll manage to make a somewhat manageable economy in time, I think we've succeeded! Our #ludumdare58 spreadsheet simul... ahem, *game*, Taxcellent is live over at […]

#ludumdare58 day 3: We're really starting to believe this entire game should've been an excel macro. So many graphs and tables.

Day 1 of #ludumdare58 done, we have terrain generation working and a surprising amount of the economy simulation as well.

Tomorrow's plan is a ton of balancing and further simulation of environment changes based on the economy.

In a rather common turn of events for #ludumdare, the theme of #ldjam58 seems to be one of the worst ones that were available in the final round of voting. The fact that only a couple themes had a positive score at all is telling […]

Spent an entire afternoon dealing with setting up #giteaactions #ci for #unity3d projects in my local instance. Man do I hate dealing with proprietary software in docker containers, nothing ever just works, everything licence related always seems to require workarounds for workarounds to get […]

Gotta love it when you finally get the package with the components for your #diy electronics side project, only to find one of the items you ordered missing and a "will be shipped later in a separate package" label in there...

For a short side project I've decided to go back to my roots and try making a simple but polished scene in #jmonkeyengine. And oh man is the jme's editor in a rough state. In the first 3 evening coding sessions I've opened 13 issues on github for all kinds of jank, from straight up breaking bugs […]

An acquaintance was looking for #modelrailway advice which prompted me to quickly take a look back at the hobby I haven't actively participated in for almost a decade now. It's kinda sad to see that time almost hasn't moved at all, most of the stuff that was sold back then is still being sold as […]

I seem to be going through the "porting over all the common VFX shaders" phase of learning a new engine or picking up an old one again. Wouldn't recommend if you're engine hopping for learning purposes.

Turns out that a short sidequest into #embedded dev is a good way of getting more hands on understanding of pointers.

At least as long as you avoid #arduino's software ecosystem. I worked with Arduino for years and I don't think I had to ever use a pointer, meanwhile #espidf basically forces […]
