If turn based, I recommend the first two Paper Mario games. Those are classic and not too complicated while still being interesting

I think the faces are different enough. There are clear similarities but imo that's because it's your style coming through. Maybe it's the resting expressions? They are very close to one another in emotion. That being said, it all looks very good.

Having a decent mentor or someone to ask questions makes a difference for sure. Might be worth searching up a community that can help, like a Blender Discord or something.

Sounds like night terrors. I had it a lot as a kid. I recommend trying white noise while sleeping to see if it helps at all. Maybe run a fan or air purifier for the noise
