also doesn't help the only 2 times i've been to motherland PH, my relatives never helped me with my speaking skills because they were entranced by my stupid californian accent. so they'd speak tagalog or ilocano to me and i'd respond in idiot english

like my entire freaking life i thought 'ading' (younger sibling) was a tagalog word because that's all i was accustomed to hearing in conversations growing up (hardly ever heard 'bunso'. and i confused it with freaking 'buntis' which means preg) NO I JUST LEARNED TODAY IT'S ILOCANO
