Handstand junkie, software engineer, manager, ocicat parent, atheist, subway rider. Loves cities, coffee, cats, & books. I don't believe in endless growth for the sake of growth, and think that "stay hungry, stay foolish" is some truly terrible advice.
Rest here, weary traveler: a lady, who is me, installs a window blind. Nothing goes wrong.

"I didn't expect that MY death would, unfortunately, be worth it in 2025". Irony can be pretty ironic.

In the Future All Food Will Be Cooked in a Microwave, and if You Can’t Deal With That Then You Need to Get Out of the Kitchen
Update 8/8/2025 – I wrote this the day before a certain post by a popular developer services company. I’ve seen some comments this is a rebuttal – it wasn’t meant to be! But…

Ah, the social sciences. You can die in obscurity or live to see your research co-opted by advertising.

A quick shout-out to Ayo Edebiri, whose name just appeared in two consecutive NYT crossword puzzles. I can see I'll be well rewarded for remembering her.

Some things are even more interesting after they break. I'd love to draw these shapes and shadows sometime!

I spent the month of March quitting my job at Google, a time consuming endeavor that led to me not posting an outdoor handstand photo in March. I'm giving myself a pass on that, all things considered, but I'll also post two in April. Here's the first.

I do this on Friday for the first time in a decade, and then can't figure out why my weekend workouts feel so tired. A mystery.

More drawing homework. As a friend of mine said, they are *very* abstract nudes...

A business makes more than it spends. Now the extra money gets to go somewhere, which is nice. Does it go to a) shareholders, b) workers, c) customers, d) the state, e) the community at large, f) someone else (patent holders)?

I happened to stumble across the "I know I'm being successful when..." list I wrote around 2020. The first item on that list is still my favorite: "I know I'm being successful when... at least one cat seeks me out on a regular basis."

What lets you know you're living the way you want to?

Okay... this *is* really a lot of fun, once you learn a few patterns.

Dragonsweeper is my favorite game of 2025 (so far)
The quick-hit Minesweeper-style RPG has just the right mix of logic and luck.

A bit of handstand choreography I learned this morning. It could use some smoothing out, but I already like how it feels.

Healthy adult here, but the problems I do have always seem to involve my skin. I used ~5 ointments etc this morning. Watching myself through alien eyes: "The creature's sole barrier against a hostile environment is weak and eroding. No doubt it will dissolve soon and the creature will die."

Also what's the opposite of "Stay hungry, stay foolish" because that's my idea of good advice. Maybe "Grow wise, and learn what is enough for you".

I'm taking an online drawing course through Udemy (the teacher is Brent Eviston), specifically about volume and form. Here is my completed homework for the first lecture, on spheres! A bit tedious, but they did get better over time.
