I'm not certain which mic or type of mic you use, but if its quality has gone down, it could be either something inside the mic that isn't working properly, or the cord to the computer it's connected to could be faulty. Maybe consider trying out a different cord or getting a new mic. Hope that helps

It may also be worth putting panels on the outside too if you have extra panels - that way the outside of the box can absorb some of the reverb bouncing off the walls in the room. 2/2

Deadbyte suggested I do this to reduce echoing, it might help you too. Try putting the mic in a medium/large box & put some acoustic panels in it. Stick the panels on the walls. For the wall the mic will stand on, consider cutting a panel into several pieces around where the it'll be standing. 1/2
