"Since the Trump administration captured President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela and announced plans to run the country, the world has been confronted with the fact that longstanding rules are falling into irrelevance".

I know Menzies means this as a critique but "an increasingly well-funded and dominant CBC" sounds pretty good to me the day after the Corporation for Public Broadcasting shut down in the U.S. There is nothing constructive in this piece. macdonaldlaurier.ca/the-biggest-...
The biggest media story of 2026—and why the mainstream press is hoping you’ll ignore it: Peter Menzies in The Hub | Macdonald-Laurier Institute
Bereft of new ideas, broadcasters will continue to gut their newsrooms while insisting the government take responsibility for funding their increasingly apparitional structures.

Unbelievable that the U.S. has just let this slide.
Samuel Alito flew two flags used by insurrectionists.

Clarence Thomas' wife plotted to overturn the 2020 election.

Both justices refused to recuse themselves from SCOTUS cases related to the January 6th plot.

It's a stain on our nation that this has effectively been forgotten.

Between relentlessly attacking "mainstream media" and now "neoliberalism", the MAGA crowd is conquering the world via standard issue undergraduate papers.

As a proud Gen X'er, there is only one Grinch, the 1966 special with Boris Karloff. I asked my son why he torments me by preferring the newer Benedict Cumberbatch version. He said the new Grinch treats his dog better. Upon reflection, the boy has a point: Chuck Jones did not spare the whip in 1966.

At the end of the strangest year ever: Corus Media, barely scraping by in the Canadian broadcasting industry, unwittingly becomes a vital source for truth and free speech in American journalism and is feted by American progressives. Nope, did not see this one this coming.

According to my feed, all hell is breaking loose at CBS tonight, and then I remind myself, this the Bluesky feed of a COMS scholar, not what the overwhelming majority of the world is talking about. Damn, 2025 has left me jaded.

The Streaming Act must be preserved and I see little to be gained by placing blame in its slow implementation with the CRTC. The Bill was written in such a way that significant details were punted to the regulator. www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/art...

Wow. You're in serious trouble America, which of course means we all are. The institutional scaffolding of democracy was far more precarious than anyone thought.
Breaking news: The Supreme Court appeared poised to allow President Trump to fire a leader of the FTC, a ruling that could limit or overturn a 90-year-old precedent that curbs executive power to dismiss the heads of agencies set up to be independent.

A ruling in favor of Trump’s position has been expected by legal experts because the justices have been chipping away at a precedent known as Humphrey’s Executor.

Please reasonable Americans, don't start doing victory laps because you only lost Tennessee by 7 points. A sleeping Trump still has 30% of the vote locked up. You've still got a lot of work to do. Signed, the rest of the world.
