My Medieval Latin Word Lost says the literal meaning of crucibulum (or crucibolum) dates to 13th C, and etymonline says metaphorical meaning to 1640 but then the trail goes dead. Basically I’m trying to figure out two things-when & where it got it’s metaphorical meaning and how Miller seized upon it

I also downloaded it a while ago but have yet to start as I’ve instead been plowing through @greatesttrek.com #greatestgen to get my trek fix and avoid being bombarded with too much news. What do you say? Is the book worth the trek? 😉 🖖

Yeah! I told them all the same things about Latin so then my approach was “Welp kids, we are stuck with each other for an hour a day and this textbook ain’t gonna read itself.”
