It's great to see that the piles of money and enormous amounts of electricity and other resources used to train these models has produced such stunning and useful results. And I'm SUPER glad that google now always shows me this garbage.

Not a solid answer, but an anecdote: here's a comparison of Kendall's tau for models built using an RF and a bag classifier on the 40 bioactivity datasets that I am working with at the moment.
The RFs are better 23 times out of 40 with a median difference of 0.012 in favor of the RFs.

Random: this is a “disposable” thing that we found on a glacier in Greenland back in 2017. We still use it for the rare occasions that we need a lighter (last night: fondue) and it still works perfectly.
