Took a workshop (smart-workshops.com) on Interpersonal Synchrony with Drs. Gordon and Thorson and it was super cool! Here, I calculated affective synchrony from continuous ratings of a naturalistic conversation. This is how sharers and listeners felt at low, medium, and high levels of synchrony📈📉

Received news that my paper with @minzlicht.bsky.social was accepted at Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin🥳. In it, we examine how trait measures of empathy predict everyday state empathy, and what this teaches us about how we measure and experience empathy: osf.io/preprints/ps... #empathy

How do individual differences in trait empathy manifest in everyday state experiences of empathy? In a new preprint @minzlicht.bsky.social and I address this question: osf.io/preprints/ps.... We find theoretically expected trait-state relationships✅, but also some surprises😲. We also find trait 1/2

This work speaks to the potential of positive empathy, and also to the fact that the relationship between social media and well-being doesn't depend only on duration of use, but also on the psychological experiences users are having while they browse. #socialmedia #empathy #well-being 3/3

to increase positive empathy on Instagram and improve the subjective well-being of users. Across 4 studies, we found our intervention improved well-being relative to browsing as usual, and this effect was mediated by increases in positive emotion sharing, appreciative joy, and self-compassion. 2/3

With his pioneering work in Primatology, Ethology, and beyond, Frans de Waal had a large influence on how Scientists think about the evolution and expression of empathy. His writing has influenced my thinking and work. R.I.P. to Dr. de Waal.

Here are the comparison effect sizes for each lab, first comparing high-choice versus low-choice, then comparing counter-attitudinal to neutral essays. At the bottom is the average effect size, d = -0.03 and d = 0.26, respectively.

Burnout is part of parenting, right? This multi-lab study across 42 countries suggests culture plays a role. Burnout differed across nations with Belgium, Poland, the USA, and Canada taking top spots. This may be due to their strong cultural focus on individualism.
