When you culture E. Coli on EMB agar medium, it precipitates the salts out of the medium and creates a metallic green colour on the colonies. Pretty freaking cool! (The purple is P. fluorescens)

Starting to get good at DNA extraction. Got our extraction done first in the lab today, and had a perfect 260/280 ratio (indicates purity and presence or lack of contamination) and strong concentration of DNA. 🤓🧬👩🏼‍🔬

SCIENCE IS SO COOL. Using just various concentrations of isopropyl alcohol, we separated the blue and red dyes out of grape Kool-Aid.
My prof even gave me one of the separation columns to take home and do the experiment with my kiddos 😍🥹 (shhh don't tell the college)

There's a heat warning in effect here, and our A/C went out last, seemingly for the whole building. We live in public housing which means maintenance doesn't work weekends. The emergency answering service sent techs to individual units but that's not gonna help.

Today in bio lab we assembled (surprisingly challenging) model DNA molecules and it brought me right back to grade school. Even the simple stuff in this course is fun. 🤓

Did a little self-care mani tonight (it was those semi-cured gel strips... Took forever to put on and WAY more fiddly than just gel polish but fun for a one-time thing)
The rest of the weekend is pretty much all homework 😅
