Spain declared Santa Fe (now NM) the capitol of New Spain in 1610. That was ten years before the Mayflower landed in Plymouth Rock. The indigenous peoples of America have a long history with the Spanish. There was war, enslavement, persecution, but indigenous people are still alive in us.
