He didn’t say anything in response, but he stopped making hateful comments around me. My dad pulled me aside after and I started to apologize because I was worried I’d made a scene. Instead he told me “I’ve always hated that guy. I don’t know where you learned all of that but I couldn’t be prouder.”

He then got a quick history lesson about how thanks in part to groups like Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services actually living out their Christian values, our state has welcomed people in need going back to at least the Vietnam War.

As a lifelong Minnesotan, I can’t be fully objective, but it’s hard for me to imagine living somewhere else. Even if the current temp is negative 4. The only place that’s come close to making me consider a move is Iceland.

Middle school daughter & friends dressed as farm animals tonight. I wish all 8th grade girls had such kind, supportive, and wholesome friends. They even went to my parents’ to trick or treat and completely made their night. Big brother offered to pick his sister up and bring her home. A+ evening.
