The problem with the fan statement "The real monster is Victor" is that it completely ignores The Monsters actions in the books such as plotting out several murders including the murder of a child out of spite. Victors worst traits come from his ignorance and naivety from his youth

Rewatched Frankenstein2025, everything with Elizebeth are genuinely some of the worst changes I've seen in any Frankenstein adaptation, it's complete fan indulgence and values aesthetic and otherness over any actual substance

I love that the Ox King went from dressing up as a bizarro dystopian mad max warlord to a nice 90s sitcom dad the moment his daughter got married and had a kid

I like Frankenstein 2025 the same way I like Bram Strokers Dracula, where it works better as a original story inspired by the book that has different themes and is a visual stunning masterpiece.

I really liked Oscar Issac in Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein but I am curious what it would look like if Victor was portrayed by a actor closer to his age in the book because there is an aspect of youth and naivety lost in his portrayal, I think someone like Dominic Sessa would be a good choice

I'm not anti nostalgia as a whole, but I am always kind of cautious with a lot of nostalgia-focused series like revivals, remakes or sequels because it's often written in an overly romantic cutesy lens and just kind of goes for basic safe repetition, which is why I loved Fioana and Cake so much.

There's an infantilization of Mary Shelly online I noticed over the past few years, contributing her accomplishments and ability as a writer simply to the fact she was a woman or saying stuff like men who write good female characters have a "Girl spirit" and it reminds me of this quote

Young Sheldon being a single cam dramedy while Georgie and Mandy and BBT being more traditional multicam laugh tracks creates this bizarre tone shift comparison though, almost gives it a bizzaro Kevin Can F*ck Himself feeling

I will always be open to changes in adaptation, but I think my biggest issue with Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is that his take on Victor is very much a common fan's reception to Victor of "He's the real monster" kind of forgetting that Mary Shelly herself identified with Victor

As a visual representation, I think Bernie Wrightson has my favorite version of The Monster from Frankenstein, he can convey so much tragedy in it, but also just the heightened unexperienced emotions he's feeling of both pain, jealousy and wrath
