On the subject of semi-obscure PS2 games, I rented Defender a couple times. Didn’t know it was based on a 1980s arcade game, just thought it looked cool.

Weird, weird game. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.

(I don’t think there are any jets in Sky Odyssey but I wanted an even number)

Jet fighter games on PS2 (other than Ace Combat).

Sirius (dog people)
61 Cygni (bird people)
Procyon (big blue star)
Bernard’s Star (small red star)
Wolf 359 (was relatively obscure until being featured in a popular scifi show)

If a scifi setting is trying to have more “realistic” interstellar travel, expect one or more of these stars to be mentioned:
Alpha Centauri (the popular one)
Proxima Centauri (the pedant’s choice)
Tau Ceti (bad stuff goes down there)
Epsilon Eridani (where the cool people come from)

I’ll take it farther than all the people saying “microtransactions.”

Delete DLCs. Sell a complete game, and then sell a complete expansion pack if you want to add more content to the game.

So if the Ford Capri is the European Mustang, does that make the Opel Manta the European Camaro, since it was technically a GM product?

“Every creature in the galaxy wants to exterminate us and you want to hire a vocal group.”

The 2003 BSG game also gave the Colonials a bomber called the “Cobra,” but I don’t think it was as…refined of a design.

One of the DLCs for Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock added the Colonial “Taipan” bomber, which is pretty clearly based on the Ralph McQuarrie concept Viper and/or the Buck Rogers Thunderfighter.

Tatsuya Endo: “Hmm, how should I portray an aristocratic hawkish right-wing politician?” 🤔

Tatsuya Endo: “Crackhead Hitler!” 💡

Like 90% of the “Analog Horror” aesthetic, and a good number of SCP foundation articles’ writing style, comes from the dreams in Prince of Darkness and the first couple minutes of Neon Genesis Evangelion episode 21.

This has the same kind of eldritch vibe as “you can not kill me in a way that matters.”
November 26, 2025 at 4:25 AM
There was a Battlestar Galactica flight sim game in 2003 that was kind of a weird middle ground between the original and reimagined series, both aesthetically and narratively.

Took another shot at Anabasis, this time with a fleet consisting of one of every class of Battlestar.

The Valkyrie-class Bastet survived a lot longer than I expected, outlived the Minerva-class Sobek and the Artemis-class Atlantia. Tough little ship.

It's at the Battle of Procyon V, where Archer visited it, presumably.

I once posted on Facebook about not liking the surface detailing of the Enterprise-J and got jumpscared by a reply from an irate Doug Drexler.

They should get Crytek in there and adapt Far Cry 1 lol. Give us Miami Vice dude vs mutants and monsters.

And... even if you take away the wind and the... water, it's still the same.
