I don't know as much as I'd like to on the origin of the terms or diagnosis, so that'd probably be a better starting point for me on dissecting why we decided to separate and define things the way we did. Most of my work was just focused on the impact of disorders on the individual.

& definitely, "atypical" is such a weird, arbitrary label. It sets a lot of framework for puritan approaches towards sex in general. I'm not entirely sure how else we describe it - much less where, if anywhere, we would choose to draw the line between these attractions/experiences.

Oh that makes sense !! I think I just read it very literally. You make a good point on people closing up once they hear that word. I think adjusting the language to open up conversation is a good idea. I've definitely seen people otherwise on the fence immediately jump over once they hear the word..

Stunning how you named the ACTUAL issue in this post and yet totally missed the point. The lack of accountability for big tech companies and corporations has always bred this issue.
Not a single one of these bills will protect children.

If I'm not mistaken, that's just the distinction between a paraphilia & a paraphilic disorder, no?
It's been a few years since college lol... But I recall paraphilic attractions and paraphilic disorders being separate.
(Ie, it becomes a disorder when accompanied by harm, dysfunction, or distress)

Absolutely crazy levels of innovation !! Was this a method you stumbled across from someone else or did you come up with this? :0
