i'm not interested on whether it does or does not disrupt the console market, although i do think if you're MS you're probably really mad that VALVe beat you to exactly what you were planning to do, i'm mostly just annoyed that everyone seems to think a midrange pc is going to be insanely expensive

We looked at the specs on my stream, even! the steam machine is like 2% better the steam user survey's average pc, its basically the most mid-range possible pc you could make and that's on purpose! it's not meant to be an insanely high power rig!

right, and that target audience isn't going to pay over 1k for a box less powerful than ps5 or xbox when they could get those to satsify the same desire for less. it *has* to compete with those, whether valve wants it to or not. Like, they're making a console, even if they won't outright say that.

genuinely you can build the specs of a steam machine roughly right now for 686. why would you pay more than 750 at MOST from valve for it?

and even then, you can build literally the specs of the steam machine for about 686$ including a case. And tech youtube has never been more popular, i truly believe even your most normie person can build a PC following an LTT guide or something, its really not that difficult

i haven't looked that hard but like, even just a cursory google search yields results. if you were paying 1k for a prebuilt you were getting MEGA scammed.

i mean... the steam deck absolutely *did* do that. like, it was never going to sell more, but its a HUGE market all on its own and a ton of people who would have otherwise bought a switch bought a steam deck instead. like i get your point, but let's not pretend the steam deck did badly :P

i'm standing pretty firm of 600-750$ for price. i cannot imagine it being higher. its DOA for so, so, so many people if it is and they've *already* failed on steam machines before, i cannot see them making the same mistake twice.... i hope.

you can't even say "oh branding" because while valve is a popular company, they're not one that makes products often enough people are scrambling to have "VALVe" as a sticker on their pc.
and you can't say "well its prebuilt for you" bc prebuilts can be bought with the same specs for $600-750

it's literally one of my favorite games of all time, and it changed me as a person fundamentally, so i hope you enjoy it! (although i played OG not royal, idk what royal does)
