A lovely two-star for Lei in Chinatown — and also the nyt finally managed to mention wine in the body of a restaurant review

A NYC mayoral aesthetic coalition broad enough to encompass walking offstage to “Dhoom Machale” + blasting Bad Bunny’s “El Apagón” + Lucy Dacus covering "Bread & Roses”

The key to good Christmas music imo is it either needs to be joyously corny w/ a beat (Jackson 5’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”) or haunted, weird, pagan (“Good King Wenceslas”, the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s Charlie Brown score)

Anything in between falls into a grating uncanny valley

A great way to figure out whether bay leaf has a flavor would be to take the subway to the East Village and order this daiquiri at Bar Kabawa:

This afternoon’s newsletter includes a drinkable lesson plan, a 9-minute video about minerality, and an activity sheet that wouldn’t exist if I hadn't gotten certified to teach English as a foreign language:

Some people say a man is made out of time
A floor somm's made out of cheap beer and wine
Cheap beer and wine, coffee and spit
A tongue that's numb and a thumb that's split

One reason why you know the quote post is "everybody clapped" levels of fake is the imaginary young people are not drinking, say, a dirty martini /or Aperol spritz while wearing high waisted pleated trousers w/ a knit polo
this kind of panic is completely disconnected from objective reality, what on earth are they expecting will happen if the city becomes (optimistically) 10% more responsive to the needs of people who will never know anyone who has a line drawing of themselves in the newspaper
