Trilogy just ends up being a maze of shortcuts rather then engaging with the series's own politics. What new generation will be inspired by this? What hope can be gained from the past haunting the future?

The Last Jedi has its flaws but it has a lot of great scenes and did the best it could with a shaky foundation, and it's so sad that even it's unique and interesting elements just get turned into more nostalgia bait come the next movie.

Poe as a new iteration on Han makes no sense in a movie that literally has Han in it, Rey being an orphan only matters marginally since the plot just gifts her powers as it deems necessary, Kylo is just worse Vader etc etc etc etc.

The worst part is The Force Awakens has great character sketches it bungles within its own film. A Stormtrooper who snaps out of brainwashing is such a great idea but then Finn is just a bumbling sidekick except for his subplot in TLJ.

There's a lottttt you can say about the prequels but they do meaningfully add to the OT by showing the political context necessary to create an empire. The sequels just weaken all the other movies for the sake of nostalgia bait.
