This photo was taken in 2009 at Sandringham show. This is an African Barn Owl, I thought it looked similar, presumably another subspecies?

Similar effects arise from another mutation known as "Stipper", also sex-linked and dominant.

The milky modifier is usually found in varieties mostly from India such as Lahores and Mookees, where it is known as Lavender, and exhibition Fantails where it is known as powdered silver.

This is the Gorguero cross. The expression is much lighter and more subtle here because it is further combined with the Faded modifier, so you can see the beak and toenails are light coloured.

I can report some progress on my current project(s) to transfer the recessive autosomal modifier known as "milky" from a racing homer to Horseman pouters and Gorgueros. Two second generation backcrosses here, just babies, one in each breed. This is the Horseman cross.

These are the three non-dilute (intense) expressions in different varieties. Ash red (Old Dutch Capuchine), Blue bar (German Beauty Homer), Brown bar (Marchenero).

Examples of the three basic colours in Columba Livia modified with dilute. Ash red becomes Ash yellow (Chinese Owl), Blue becomes silver (Danish tumbler) and brown becomes khaki (African Owl).

Nice example of Ash red split blue. This happens when a male has a different basic colour on each of his Z chromosomes. He has the dominant colour mutation Ash red on one chromosome and wild type blue on the other. His pattern is chequer. #pigeonsky
