Amber and Blake’s treatment online has really carved open how much society believes women should not be believed. Retaliatory defamation lawsuits—against everyday women, not just stars—have been amplified while sexual harassment and assault rates have stayed steady since MeToo.

Nothing deep here, I just know that if my disabled sister lost her social security, it would devastate her life.

She’s kind, runs a big Meetup group, she makes Utah a better place for folks like her. I’m glad I pay social security taxes to help people like her live meaningful lives in society.

One small moment of absurdity from Jan 6 — when insurrections were scouring DC Reddit trying to find where there was free parking so their cars wouldn’t get towed while they stormed the Capital. My favorite: “Looks like they are trying to make it as uncomfortable as possible to be at this thing.”

To add — the police made no arrests, so insurrectionists dispersed into our neighborhoods.

It’s a delightful tradition! We also burn lavender for good luck, write our intentions on paper and tuck them into the green man, and drink lots of mulled wine to stay warm! Burns from years past:

My family has celebrated the solstice every year for decades. I’m in charge of making a life-size green man made of holly and pine, who we dance with around the fire and burn. It’s a beautiful holiday and I hope everyone has a magical Yule 🌲🔥

Skipped Thanksgiving entirely and ate tamales and pastries all week in Mexico City. The only way to heal after election burnout stares at you deep into your soul.

Tacita Dean’s 'The Montafon Letter.’ This huge, impermanent, sublime chalk portrait of a 17th c. avalanche in the Austrian alps that buried a bunch of monks, and a second avalanche that unburied them. Makes me feel small and human like the stars make me feel small and human.

New mifepristone lawsuit dropped and its *something* to see how the Idaho/MO/KS AGs tried to build standing for themselves by arguing that declining teen birth rates (from abortions) are an injury to the State bc of the “diminishment of political representation” jessica.substack.com/p/mifepristo...

Absolutely obsessed with this look by Chappell but she's not Joan of Arc, but Julie D’Aubigny! She was a 17th c. bisexual French opera singer who performed in drag and bested men in duels. Her lesbian lover was once sent to a convent for being gay and she set the convent on fire to free her. An icon

The Super Bowl ad that showed anti-abortion protestors in front of a crisis pregnancy center? It’s funded by a group who bankrolls the Alliance Defending Freedom, the org behind the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe and is pushing the lawsuit before the Supreme Court trying to ban the abortion pill
