First time attempting a biggish climb and honestly, it was not as completely horrible as I expected. Definitely less intimidated by riding in the Berkeley hills now!

I emailed to ask about artist information and this is the response I got. "Modern editing techniques" seems to imply AI generated to me. A shame too, since the idea is really cool!

... of CMB lensing constraints on m_nu, with a nice (imo) explanation of why primary CMB data, as well as primary+lensing, constrain the linear combinations of rho_cb and rho_nu that they do. #cosmology

This tension projects differently into different LCDM extension model spaces, which manifest as preferences for non-LCDM parameter values. For example, increasing Alens to ~1.08 moves you in the right direction to get agreement between the two datasets.

We see that there is a growing tension, within LCDM, between DESI and CMB data. We can see this in the Omega_m - hr_d plane, wherein the constraints from each do not overlap much. Using all CMB data, the tension is 2.8 σ, but using just ground-based CMB experiments it is 3.7 σ.

The new SPT-3G data allows for much sharper reconstructions of the recombination history due to the low noise, high resolution measurements of the CMB damping tail. Using CMB data alone we can reconstruct the ionization fraction across recombination to within ~40% of the standard value!

SPT-3G D1 finds no evidence for excess lensing on its own, or in combination with other CMB datasets (all within 1.9 σ of Alens = 1). Is the lensing excess just a feature of the Planck data? It remains important to understand due to how it affects constraints on, e.g., neutrino mass.
