If someone nice turned up and actually paid to repeatedly see me work, I'd hug them too. Oh wait, this is academia kind of 😉 yeah, you're not a stalker, performance industries are just very weird for power dynamics etc

Do we or do we not live in a country where these awful people got their way at almost every major decision point of the century so far? We do! Is it good? No, it is a national calamity. Are they sorry? No they’re not, they’re *absolutely furious* that they haven’t got more and worse.

In the UK roast turkey is often served with bread sauce: cream, milk, clove studded onion, bread crumbs, bay leaf (yum!). My cousin Duncan volunteered to contribute, had never made breadcrumbs deliberately. His partner found him roughly kicking a still bagged pre-sliced loaf to death in their hall.

Yeah, I'm meeting all the official listed requirements and disabled and still not getting interviews - because when there's 120 applicants, they'd probably have 20 guaranteed interviews - it's actually easier to weed us out now, cos there's just no possible way to meet that metric

In 2018, there were over 120 applicants for an 18 month nineteenth century lit post-doc at the respectable redbrick where I was finishing my PhD. I was told they jettisoned all CVs without a book contract immediately. For multiple reasons, as hard as it was before, it is worse now.

Every time I teach this module new and exciting possibilities are suggested by the kids - they're all right!

The students were so great - we ended up with the idea of Lestat as embodying Edelman's no future, and Louis as more Esteban Munoz, and their relationship as a reflection of certain tensions.

We were talking about performativity, unreliable narrative and memory, queer utopian vampires, and much more because that transition in IWTV - from Louis romanticised memory to Daniel's brutal cynicism - is peak fucking Queer Gothic. Meta AF, and sexy, and problematic, and problematised...
