A clever use of cat pictures in your thread, it kept me scrolling through to the end! Oh, and the use of @opentargets.org Platform wasn't too bad either ;)

Together with @pacbio.bsky.social, we’re building open datasets, new tools, and a better understanding of biology, one that’s truly global.

This is a technical and scientific milestone: long-read, single-cell transcriptomics at scale, across cell types and tissues, and across diverse populations.

Alongside, @carlanderson.bsky.social and his team will apply this technology to IBD. By resolving RNA isoforms in blood and gut tissue, they hope to uncover why treatments work better for some than others, and how to improve them.

This matters because underrepresented populations have been left out of large-scale genomic studies for too long.
By centering these communities in cutting-edge research, we’re helping pave the way for more equitable health outcomes.

Samples from Peru 🇵🇪 and Mexico 🇲🇽 will help reveal how transcriptional complexity varies across ancestries, bringing much-needed diversity to immune research and ensuring genomic insights reflect all of global population.

Project JAGUAR is at the heart of this.

We’re working with scientists across 7 Latin American countries to study how genetic ancestry shapes immune responses. We will use long-read single-cell RNA sequencing for the first time at scale.
