Next, we investigated positive selection of driver mutations during spermatogenesis. This effect was uncovered and has been extensively characterised by the Wilkie and @gorielylab.bsky.social groups. A summary figure of theirs here [7/n]

Innovative and insightful publication in Nature from Matthew and Co. in Raheleh Rabari's group at the Sanger Institute. Driver mutations of selfish selection in older fathers at a higher level than previosuly thought.

Big week in the lab! Our amazing PI, Anne Goriely, gave the Spinoza Lecture at Amsterdam UMC, such an honour! She was thrilled to be invited and enjoyed sharing her work on selfish mutations and disease with a great audience. Thanks to everyone at Amsterdam UMC for the warm welcome and great chats🙏🧬

Congratulations to @agoriely.bsky.social on being awarded the Spinoza chair by @amsterdamumc.bsky.social 🎉

In June, Prof Goriely will give her Spinoza lecture on how new genetic mutations arise in the testes, their increase in frequency as men age, and how they can lead to serious genetic diseases.

Proud to be supporting International Women's Day! Hear from our very own Anne Goriely and others on what it's like to be a women in science/academia. We have come a long way, but there is still progress to be made!

A fantastic trip to King George V college in Southport for #RareDiseaseDay for our "We are all Mutants" workshop! Students discussed the criteria for inclusion of diseases in the newborn screening program & assessed the ethical dilemmas with whole genome sequencing. #Genomics @cpmoxford.bsky.social

I have created a Bsky account just in time for #LorneGenome25 so that I can post from (and about) the meeting. I am very proud of the program that the Organising Committee has pulled together (www.lornegenome.org) and can't wait to see you all on Sunday! Looking forward to some science by the beach!
