Lovely morning for a trip down to Millport, and good to see the historic Crocodile Rock looking good!

They also do most excellent merchandise!

Not a bad view to wake up to.

Maybe that explains the “contains product placement” message that comes up at the start of each episode on P+ this season! (at least in the UK!) 😂

Pretty cool to get a wave from the current actual Spider-Man within minutes of getting off the train into Glasgow city centre today.

Achievement unlocked - utilising a historic pissoir while on holiday in Stockholm. It’s situated behind the Nobel museum!

Just back from my holidays to discover this fantastic new book by @jonmelville.bsky.social on my doorstep - I was lucky enough to read a prerelease version & Kermit is looking forward to getting stuck into the actual published book of Rainbow Connections - Volume 1!

They appear to have made it to Linlithgow as well…

“Impossible” to compare English Doctor salaries to any other countries?! I can think of 3 other countries, quite close to England - one just above, two just to the left of it, which have *very similar* National Health Services which could make quite a useful comparison…

Really hoping we don’t get a hosepipe ban in place, or I won’t be able to water the cat.
July 12, 2025 at 6:13 PM
The staircase *really* isn’t very enthusiastic about anyone stepping on it…

More pics from this amazing place, including the cinema cat.

Great to be in London yesterday at the Cinema Museum giving a @scottishcinemas.org update for the AGM of @CTheatreAssoc - the core of the collection there is from Aberdeen so lots of Scottish cinema artefacts on display!

Meanwhile it was nice to spot our new @glasgowgardenfestival.org walking trail that takes you round the former site of the Glasgow Garden Festival 1988 out in the wild in leaflet stands across Glasgow today!

Sorry to see that lovely wooden carved historic “The Glasgow Dairy Coy.” shop front signage on Gt Western Road near Kelvinbridge - previously successfully mostly reused as part of a vintage shop sign - has been removed after shop has closed.
Hope signage is safely stored?

Always a pleasure to be back in my old stomping grounds at @maryhillburghhalls.bsky.social today, saying hello to the stained glass, checking out the latest additions to the museum collection and restocking my supply of copies of my or venerable Maryhill & Canal walking trails!

Fun to see former @archhfund.org.uk Wales supported project (& 2013-2014 AHF Annual Review cover star!) Penarth Pier Pavilion being transformed through some snazzy special effects additions into a 1950s Miami cinema in this week's Doctor Who episode, Lux.

I also respect Huntly’s excellent approach to street naming; no nonsense and does what it says on the tin.
April 16, 2025 at 2:20 PM
Last time I was in Huntly, No 30 The Square was a building site - now it’s a bustling hub of a building. Getting to see these sorts of community led regeneration projects from their earliest days through to successful opening like this is a real privilege of my role at the @archhfund.org.uk !

Lovely weather today in Edinburgh where I was being interviewed waving my arms around and talking about the benefits of the @archhfund.org.uk approach to community-led historic building-focussed sustainable regeneration projects.

End of an era as iconic Maryhill Wyndford high flats being demolished later today - I was lucky enough to get to see the view from the top of one back in 2013 when they were celebrating having just re-clad & insulated them all and connected them to a brand new district heating system.

My former science career peaked when I was once described as a “boffin” in the national press; my heritage career may have reached its zenith too with the latest Private Eye Nooks & Corners columns quoting @archhfund.org.uk recommendations from an article I wrote about Scottish churches at risk!

The best part of this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special was of course the Mr Benn references - with at least Red Knight, Deep Sea Diver and the pith helmet from the Hunter episode costumes visible!
