it's 2026. social media is dead. I'm booting into dos on a beige box surrounded by crying children with broken phones. I light a cigarette and pull a small grey ball from behind my eyepatch before carefully inserting it into the belly of a 1990s mouse.

The cactus plant in the front garden blooped out a second flower of the summer, but this one we didn't miss!

The flowers only bloom for one evening before dying back. The delicate feather-like fringe of the petals are incredibly beautiful (see 2nd photo).

A moderately wet summer in Brisbane has meant a second flush of orange jasmine flowers, which the bees were loving this morning. There were dozens of foragers on a single, albeit large, bush.

I have a confession to make. You probably sensed it, but weren’t able to articulate what was happening. Your loved ones think you’re losing your grasp on reality. For the last six months I’ve been inc...

A millipede from the species Paradoxosomatidae in Bali, Indonesia. Possibly Anoplodesmus saussurii. It is about 30—40mm long and is a dark brown with yellow markings.

In today's other Dr Doolittle adventure a bioluminescent beetle came to say hello during dinner. Safely transported back outside of the restaurant.

Possibly Calliophis intestinalis (Banded Malaysian Coral snake) being gently relocated away from the path at the end of a long stick on my walk in Munduk, Bali, this morning.

I'm currently in Munduk, on the island of Bali. While walking today I found this lovely little snek. It was on the footpath in the forest, so I gently relocated it (with a long stick) away from where it could be trodden on.

Subsequent research suggests it could be Calliophis intestinalis.

I've been working my way through this since Friday and it is truly excellent. If you want to gain a (much) deeper understanding of CSS with Andy Bell, you owe it to yourself to check it out. And he'll even give you pointers on being a better human too.

Just a quick throwback to this little project we made at Baryon last year: you can go to https://baryon.be/stories/population, type in any country you like, and see a population density ridgeline plot for it!

It’s really disheartening to see trans users having to step back from Bluesky because of the influx of transphobic harassment. Trans posters built the culture of this platform and it would behoove cis allies to advocate for their safety as Bluesky expands and they get targeted

Interesting and bold change of direction for Jaguar cars rebranding as an electric-only marque in '26. On some level it's reminiscent of Peter Saville's work for Aston Martin to me.

I think the smaller version will look sexy AF shrunk down on the socials.
