Our culture has such a reliance on art, mixed with so much disdain for artists' lives. Someone throws soup at a painting in a gallery or whatever and everyone acts like it's a literal murder, but that level of sympathy is for the object, almost never for the living conditions of artists.

He's maybe an associate of Ungust (the merchant/fake priest/kidnapper). He's not behind the plot, but gets dragged along by the Scions (by force) for intel.
