Back in the mid ‘90’s, being a huge fan of michaelwhelan.bsky.social, I signed up for a set of limited edition prints by him named Passage to Sanctuary. For the past 30 years, they have brought that special MW feeling of wonder into our home daily. I thought it was past time to say thanks. (#52 btw)
The three signed & numbered prints that make up Michael Whelan’s original Passage to Sanctuary series. They were printed using a new (at the time) digital process, and the files were destroyed after the limited production run. The individual pieces were titled (from left to right as pictured) Landing, Path’s End, and Arrival.

The Grizzly mother lies in a depression while her cubs nurse. The perspective gives a cute view of the bottoms of the mother's feet. THere is eye contact with all the bears. After nursing the mother Grizzlyi sleeps while her cubs cuddle each other and settle down for a nap. The two cubs hungrily feed during nursing time as mama Grizlly lies on her back. A cub stands in alkert as both the Mother and cub look towards the disturbance. They stand alone in a field of sedge.
