Director of Dawn of the Monsters.

Huge Ultraman, Godzilla, kaiju and tokusatsu fan.

Love shmups and retro games.
Going through the thankless task of manually color-correcting and restoring stacks of vintage "The Last Dinosaur" (極底探険船ポーラーボーラ) photographs from the Rankin Bass Archives... Why? Ask @seismictoys.bsky.social 👀👀👀

I got to meet the man who played Godzilla in 1998.

He appreciated the small sampling of my collection.

The opening minutes of Ultraman Omega was insane. I don't think the series has ever seen CG this well choreographed and realized.

Really enjoying ZPF for SEGA Genesis so far but... Is it just me or was this game really not designed for composite video? Can't read this.

People ask me

"Alex, as a game developer what is one of your proudest achievements?"

And working with a ramen chain to make a dish based off of the lead character in Dawn of the Monsters is up there.

Like, way up there.

The infamous Zuiyo-maru carcass was explicitly referenced in episode 9 of "Dinosaur War Izenborg" in what is one of the earliest pop culture references to the incident.

Completely forgot that I own an original "Krieg Der Infras" (aka the super riders) poster featuring Infra Man (who does not appear in the film).

Now, there is also the option to emulate the actual arcade game on PC, but this is the least convenient option. You either have to play with a mouse, purchase and set up a PC-based gun controller, or finagle a Wii remote to work with the game.

But it DOES work.

Another decent option is the original Xbox version of House of the Dead III. It contains a port of HotD 2! This is a solid port as well, but you need a CRT and og Xbox gun, and while they aren't hard to find there are only 3 Xbox light gun games.

The BEST option is to grab a CRT television set, a Dreamcast, a copy of HotD 2 and a Dreamcast light gun.

Keep note that the NTSC-U HotD2 port for DC is not compatible with other region guns (dumb, I know) but the J version works with any gun afaik.

This is the closest to arcade perfect.

Here is (probably?) the easiest option:

Grab a Nintendo Wii, any model any make, and a copy of the House of the Dead 2 & 3 Returns. This is a solid port and it has the added bonus of functioning on modern flat screen televisions.

If you've already softmodded your wii, you can load it directly.

House of the Dead 2 is now getting the slop remake treatment. So if you want to play HotD2 and don't want know where to find it. Here are your best options:

House of the Dead Remake I think really exemplifies the worst of "remake culture" as it stands. It's not a game that needed a remake. It needs a port with a gun. It's completely unavailable in its original arcade form and now the only version on the market is a broken and busted remake.

A retro game store in Bangkok, Thailand.

Snagged an FR202 Thunder in Thailand and like an idiot I didn't remember Thailand is a PAL region, not NTSC.

Oh well, it's still cool and I think I can hook it up to a flatscreen with A/V input...
