Oilers, Elks, that virus you heard about (2019-?), and progressive politics.

Chess + math in the background. Competence + Compassion always.
You know what's great, is opening the fridge and thinking "why is my foot wet?", then noticing a milk carton sprung a leak

Not even a gushing leak, but enough to spend 15 minutes paper-towelling (be faster without the cursing)

To be blunt: if you are doing anything at all right now to reduce your risk of infection from SARS-CoV-2, you're being smart. As a result of the current high prevalence of flu, masking is back in the media. Ignore anything negative said about it. Political nonsense is irrelevant.

I wouldn't call it a great debate, necessarily.

But only because @trevortombe.bsky.social 's contribution was so overpowering.

One of the best economic defenses of equalization I've read. 👏

Just making things up as they go along.

If this were continuous improvement, we'd say they were building an airplane while flying it.

This populist policymaking is more like like removiny the bolts mid-flight and replacing them with duct tape, ideology, and wishful thinking.

To go from this mini-thread to a line of Jones-Frederic-Hutson tonight... godspeed, kid
To be honest I think we forgot in the 24h after how much we'd talked about the team having no confidence in its goalie(s)

But I draw the line at icing Max Jones
I think the Oilers are a very stupid organization

I don't have an issue with a higher barrier of entry for citizen driven initiatives or recall petitions.

But the huge fee jump shows the UCP is once again talking out both sides of its mouth about empowering grassroots Albertans - or that they're just bad at crafting legislation
“Citizen initiative petitions are costly and that is why a higher application fee was chosen to discourage frivolous applications and protect Alberta taxpayers"

AB increases fee for citizen-led initiatives to $25K to discourage 'frivolous applications'

Any Democrat who thinks it's appropriate to "find common ground" with the Republicans on issues like high school sports teams is negotiating with a political party that does not believe trans people should exist. This policy will kill people, so maybe stop wringing your hands about volleyball.

No big deal, but the Alberta government just increased the fee to submit a citizen initiated petition from $500 to $25, 000. After the separatism initiative was approved, but before Corb Lund's coal mining petition gets re-approved. No political shenanigans going on here.

I am convinced in the future we will look back and realise the sheer unimaginable folly of letting a virus that can cause immune dysregulation and cognitive dysfunction in humans infect and re-infect the global population over and over again. Worse still, that we encouraged it.

If the federal government wants to take responsibility for housing (as it committed to do in their spring’25 platform) then we need to be prepared to have conflict with - and overrule - municipalities who pander to nonsense, as below.

It’s ok to fight for more housing. It’s a fight worth having.
I thought I had seen all the NIMBY arguments but apparently not. In an official appeal hearing these two points were put forward about a 5 townhome plus basement suite development:
- its unconstitutional because it violates a right to privacy (presumably due to widows looking over yards) 1/

I agree with all this — sick leave is essential to a healthy society. While we’re working on that, though, we need to make it a general norm that if you MUST be around others while sick, you wear a mask (preferably a good one).
3/ Isolation is important but only works if people can afford it. Many people simply can’t stay home when sick. Without meaningful sick pay, asking people to isolate is unrealistic. Better financial support is essential to reduce transmission.

He was already the CFL’s highest-paid running back, earning $240,000 in 2025.
