...which isn't to say its bad. I just can't think of any one thing in it that I don't think is better done in another game, in fact there's no one thing in it that isn't better done in another D&D. The overall whole is playable if, frankly, way too big.

5th ed has no one thing that I think makes it better than any other game, especially when compared to e.g. classic (BECMI) D&D. In trying to get rid of all the suck, they rather failed to make it inspirationally different in itself.

...and that's scale. Its really rather hard house ruling a game that's 1100pages+ in its core rules. It's such a behemoth of a system now, its rather harder to build your own version. Which is, I think, its key weakness.
