We’re at a loss as to why Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) hasn’t intervened to stop this injustice.

Through their inaction, they are failing to uphold the values of respect, dignity and compassion that the NHS should represent.

Let’s unite to scrap the surcharge and win a truly universal health service that does what the NHS was founded to do: treat people on the basis of need, not who they are, or their ability to pay.

Already subject to exorbitant visa fees and denied access to public funds, people who are migrants are expected to find an additional £1,035 per year just to access our health service – violating its foundational principle of ‘free for all at the point of use’.

This unjust, fixed charge places a disproportionate burden on those least able to pay, causing debt, destitution and despair.
