a little trick that we did — by changing the y-scale of the particles, we can make it look like they're rotating out of the screen!

Tutorial for shader animation transition in Godot Engine. Includes an image of code, which is also available in the replies of this post. Paint your own transition image — lighter means that it will disappear first. Sets opacity of the image using a step function. Change the progress percentage variable to animate the transition.
