I have decided to write a book.
Tomorrow I will start chapter 1. It has a bear trap in it.

I have written the first 8 chapters. I think I'm about 25% of the way through my first draft. It's the first time I've got this far without losing the will to live. 50% by the end of the month? or is that crazy? 🤣

Incidentally, my new year's resolution last year was to finish the year with a shorter TBR list than I had at the start. I've cut it down from 343 to 319 (having read 158 books according to Storygraph - which I think is a clue to my book buying habits!)

My book club amigas didn't like it (long, boring, no real plot, no proper ending...) but -
I loved its scale and scope and the blend of historical truths and magical realist vibes. The writing was beautiful, too.
