🌴🦜 Pseudophoenix ekmanii, a palm species endemic to Dominican Republic, has been newly assessed as Critically Endangered. It provides nesting habitat for the Hispaniolan Parrot but is frequently destroyed during the illegal collection of chicks and eggs for the pet trade. #conservation

🌳🦜 Ocotea monteverdensis is a large canopy tree endemic to Costa Rica. It provides food for #threatened birds like the Resplendent Quetzal and Three-wattled Bellbird, which act as seed dispersers. Assessed as Critically Endangered it is threatened by forest loss and logging.

The IUCN Red List has been updated today adding over 800 new assessments for #tree species. Included in the update are species of Boswellia (frankincense trees) on Socotra Island, Yemen, with all species threatened with #extinction due to grazing and extreme weather.

The Global Tree Assessment reached a milestone with over 80% of trees now assessed on the @IUCNRedList. Trees are now the largest comprehensively assessed group on the Red List, thanks to the work of all our partners and collaborators!
