If the 1A was about not being arrested, it'd be toothless, since that scenario is rare in the US. No, the 1A protects speakers from all forms of retaliation, censorship, or sanction by the govt. A public uni is a govt entity and a lost job is a sanction. There's nuance, ofc, but that's the crux.

That likely wouldn't affect federal employee pensions, which is a different pot of money than social security. As it stands now, she'll collect her pension at 62 and social security when she turns 67.

They don't get "lifetime healthcare". While in office, MoC's can get subsidized insurance via the ACA, but like every other fed employee they pay premiums. They also get ins benefits during retirement, but if they leave gov't before then, they don't get that benefit until they reach retirement age.

You're misinformed. Federal pensions - which *all* fed employees pay into - vest after 5 years, but if someone leaves after only 5 years, they won't start collecting until they hit 62. And the pension will be small. Based on the FERS calculator, MTG will get a whopping $652.50/mo.

MoCs don't get free healthcare. Sec. 1312 of the ACA requires them to purchase insurance via the exchange. Their premiums *are* subsidized, but so are the premiums of every GS-rated federal employee. The difference is affordability. If you make $174k, you can afford the gold plan.

This is false. MoC's get subsidized health insurance via the ACA exchange, but they pay premiums, *just like every other federal employee*. They also contribute to their pensions, just like every other federal employee. Google is free, my friend.

This is true for every federal employee. Their pension is vested after 5 years, yes, but they can't collect until retirement age, which, with only 5 years of service, is 62. And the pension will be relatively small. Based on the FERS calculator, MTG will get a whopping $652.50/mo.

Every GS-rated federal employee's ACA premiums are subsidized to the tune of 72% as well, though they aren't required - as MOCs are - to choose gold plans. It's employer-paid insurance, like any other.

MoC's who aren't covered by a spouse's insurance are required by law get their insurance via the ACA exchange if they want employer-subsidized premiums. This is no different from every other federal employee. The difference is affordability. If you make $174k, you can afford a gold plan.

And based on the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) calculator, she'll get a whopping $652.50 per month. Not exactly big money, particularly for someone who pulls in $170k+ in book royalties a month and who'll command 5- or 6-figure speaking fees.

TY. Whenever I see this claim, I try to let people know that it's not true. Might as well be shouting into the void. It's the liberals' version of "AnTiFa iS a tErRoRiSt OrGaNiZaTiOn."

I love the energy but US law requires MoC's to get their health insurance via the ACA exchange. It's subsidized because they're federal employees, but they pay premiums, just like every other federal employee. The difference is affordability. If you make $174k, you can afford the gold plan.

Oh, but he is. The American aristocracy is about money & power, not breeding. DJT's cut from the same cloth as the robber barons, who weren't the kind, benevolent men our history classes claimed. They stole. They oppressed. They strongarmed. They killed (by proxy). DJT's just more crass.

I'd read your NYT pieces off and on for years but I'm hot and cold on op-eds. It wasn't until I started following you on TT that I began to read every NYT piece of yours. Your video takes are really thoughtful and supplement your written work beautifully!
