POV is not the same as 'in charge'. Diabate made it quite clear that Carol was ostracised, not in charge. If anything, Lakshmi is 'in charge' of the other 11 non-joiners. This series is not written from their POV, though.

Yes. I understand that. This is an American series written by an American. If it was, say, a Spanish series written by a Spaniard, I expect that we'd see a Spaniard or a spanish speaker 'in charge'. I think I disagree that Carol is in charge, though. It is written from her POV. That's all.

So, on another level, she didn't want any of the Hive translators there because she didn't want them to know what she had to say to the other non-joined. She was, after all, the first of the non-joined to suggest that some of them meet up. There is a serious plot point beyond English exceptionalism

I take your point. I do think that this script - what there is of it; so much is communicated in this series by facial micro movements - works on multiple levels. 1/2

And here's another one: every time that Carol's mindset changes, her car changes. So, in a nanny car that Helen drives before the joining; in a Chevy truck driving around trying to save Helen just after the joining; in a police car while she is in investigate the Plurbs mode; ... 1/2

So wrong. I have just rewatched episodes 1 - 7 and you pick up a lot of foreshadowing the second time around. For example, with the wolf packs desperate to find some already-dead protein to eat, who communicate with Carol until she scares them off.
