I could not do without Scrivener. A lot of people give up on it because they try to use all the features at once. I use it as word processor and file manager & keep all my research in it.
I wouldn't be without it. Plays well with Aeon Timeline & ProWriting Aid. I use the former but not the latter.

Not strictly a Scot but married to one and live in Dumfries and Galloway. Author of crime fiction among other things. Oh, and I do wear a kilt on special occasions, my wife’s family tartan.
