No hit wonder. Author of EIGHT crime novels set in Glasgow. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/John-Callaghan/author/B007QUZBTW?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true (bad ratings are political, truly but weirdly).

Economic migrant.
Red Kite, a common-enough sight over much of the country these days.

But this one is strangely posed, its head twisted down as it soars.

This is because it has a rat caught in its talons and it is feeding on the wing.

This is a species that *really* doesn't want to land on the ground.

It's a Giant Kingfisher.

Went to Africa, very keen to catch a Southern Ground Hornbill - missed it 5 days, and caught it on the final drive; wasn't disappointed.

Also, they have *mad* eyelashes.

I'd guess that's the most -photographed species in Africa.

It turns out, it's not The Rangers, it's Biltongland.

Watched from my desk as a Sparrowhawk caught and consumed a Great Tit.

Some of the pics I took were on the gory side, but this one just shows what a handsome cove he was.

Battle doomscrolling by posting 5 small pleasures in life.

1. Cooking your best curry.
2. That first pint.
3. The opening chords of Badlands
4. The beautiful world around us - examples below, all from different places, just like people
5. The ball in the Rangers' net

This is concise.

I'm in the UK and B 'n' W makes it tricky, but - how about juvenile Western Bluebird?

Pic not mine - credit Gary Wing.

Very true -it's probably #1 on the southern Africa wishlist for photography.

This one's in Botswana.

it's only been a few days since I drove the car but that's all it took for it to turn into a nature reserve.

Microsoft says this is Connemara national park in Ireland.

I'll need some convincing.

Like this?

I think the main theory is that it allows ants to crawl around and combat irritants like parasites with their formic acid.

And just to prove I *can* take a decent pic in rain-forest conditions, here's Crimson-rumped Toucanet.

It wasn't me, but I do have a fair number of Hummers from Ecuador.

Here's a few - Velvet-purple Coronet, Buff-winged Starfrontlet, Sword-billed Hummingbird. The latter is a crappy shot taken in a rain-storm under a dark canopy, but look at that configuration!

Norman Fowler was essentially Smithers from the Simpsons in 3D.

Ach, how dull is the beer offer here that I have voluntarily chosen *this* on the third go-round?

The slightly-forked tail is a dead giveaway; Buzzards have conventional rounded tails (LH pic) and are highly-variable, plumage-wise. Black Kites are also more slender and generally longer-winged (RH pic).

Maybe the worst photograph I ever took - but I kept it because it came out like a watercolour.

(It's a Florida Scrub Jay at Merritt Island, if any gallery curator needs a title.)

Have been looking at other folks' bird photos this last hour and as a result reckon I can stick up some of my own recent shots. (I have to self-censor a wee bit cos I do have a lot of photos AND my presence here is really for promoting my under-appreciated but marvellous crime fiction).

Anyway...

I ran along behind them and elegantly side-footed every one into the canal.

Not usually that accurate with my left.

The Palm Warbler is a tiny, harmless songbird with a light gait and charming habits, right? So why is it running along the boardwalk looking intently between the slats of the handrail? It is hunting: today, it is a predator.

Everything depends on your perspective…

Roseate Spoonbill.

From a distance, they are handsome species, elegant silhouette and intense pink colours; close up, they look like they might have burst out of John Hurt's chest in Alien.
