Marley was dead, to begin with...

The Folio Society edition of 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens, with illustrations by @sarahcoomer.bsky.social. A beautiful book.

As the riverbanks we usually visit have been swallowed by the river, we thought we'd do a spot of beachcombing.

A few more photos of Hele Bay...
November 26, 2025 at 8:19 PM
We strolled down to Hele Bay this afternoon. It was cold, windy, wet... and beautiful.

Oh, and I have a fondness for limpets.

The double Meecemas nativity. Everything's better in twos... It's more friendly.

The Meecemas tree. You can't tell from this photo, but there are a lot more meecers on it this year... Best not put the mince pies too near, just in case...

We've put everything out early this year. December is always busy (though we expect it to be slow and quiet and get caught out!).

Ours is not a religious household, but we do celebrate Meecemas.

When trying to take a photograph of beautiful little Nora... be prepared for a photobombing Margo.

I've written another blog post about Alexander Seton's cursed bone... Well, I was curious about the original owner.

A frosted shroom... the goblet (Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis).

Went walking from Woody Bay to Heddon's Mouth and back. Freezing cold... but beautiful as always.

On the way home...

I love the colours at this time of year.

Paid a visit to the Valley of Rocks... and the goats were out and about.

Another new friend, and this one brought a tasty Christmas pudding with him.

More book post... 'The Mayor's Wife' by Anna Katharine Green, published by The Bobbs-Merrill Company in 1907.

Book post... 'Danesbury House' by Mrs Henry Wood. Published by Collins Clear-Type Press, n.d., c. 1907. I have a thing for olive green books.

Azalea... climbing a pole.

It's extremely likely that these will be our final sherds of this year. Only a tiny area of riverbank was accessible (about two feet), and even that was being engulfed as we left. Hubs snatched the brown one up from under the water as it passed by. The river never ceases to be kind.

Stopped for a rest during today's ramble and ate my first mince pie of the year... filled with mincemeat, brandy, and port, and topped with a vanilla flavoured Viennese biscuit. I have to say that this will not be my last one.😍

Book post... A couple of Celia Fremlin books for the cold nights in front of the fire that we're about to have (starting Monday, I think). But Randolph Ratty says they look way to frightening for him... 😳
