Palaeontologist interested in biomechanics and tomography. Business owner. Lab manager for the University of Bristol Palaeobiology group. she/her. Opinions mine.
As I was struggling to stay upright walking around Brussels I looked down at the very slippery paving stones and discovered they were full of fossils! Not great for my shows but fun to notice walking around central Brussels. Can’t take a palaeontologist anywhere… 😅

I may be missing #2025SVP today while on mum duty, but I made sure to make up for it by putting Robin in full dinosaur outfit 😅

Back in Bristol for 2 nights being a mum to my little one who has a sad cough. Hope no one at #2025SVP drowns today and you all survive the storm! See you tomorrow for the dinner 🦕 #svp2025

Enjoyed my one full day at #2025SVP yesterday and this cool diorama that lots of my friends were involved in making! Well done all #SVP2025

Hey @theguardian.com why does news on Canada and the throne speech come under the headline “US politics live”? I know this is talking about the US threats but surely this is Canadian news not US…

New lab toy at @bristolpalaeo.bsky.social! We’ve inherited a Bruker Skyscan 1272 from another uni group and today I did my first scan on it, playing around with some microfossils. Not bad for a first attempt I think.

Today marks 4 weeks of work left until I go on maternity leave, and I am very sleepy and marking the occasion by working from home in my pyjamas with the pupster. Not sure A) how I will get everything done I need to, and B) how I will manage to stay awake and working while also ballooning even more…

Was at work before 7:00 this morning, a full 2.5 goes earlier than normal. So weird and quiet…

Nice surprise on my desk for the last day in the office of the year. It’s nice to be appreciated!

Another #fossilfriday brought to you by a long day of scanning. You can tell we’re back on fossil scanning when we get to 6.5 hours…

The joys of managing a lab full of random bones. Just discovered I’ve been carrying around this box of tiny kitten bones for 3 days as I forgot they were in my bag after testing some scanning of itty bitty things on Wednesday 🤦‍♀️ glad no one had to look in my bag 😅

A very cryptic #fossilfriday as I get to scan some fun fossils today. I like getting deliveries like this on a Friday!

The other thing I am thankful for is that this is not something I ever have to think about in either of my countries. This was at the hotel I was staying in and conference was held. Especially more relevant/scary now that I'm pregnant. I never want to have to think about this 6/n

I love the variety in my job. Earlier this week I was scanning some tiny Mesozoic mammal jaws, and the following day a massive fish fossil. Very different scale and techniques needed! Note the highly scientific ‘black bucket’ housing the fossil 😂

Finally the end of a saga. First time describing a new species, and first time making it on the cover. Just got my copy of the issue where we described Ceoptera, a new pterosaur from Skye, accompanied with this great artwork by @markwitton.bsky.social! Finally done.

Update: it has become alive and trying to make a run for it (on its back rather than using its legs…)

I suspect it’s a chafer/maybug grub. www.lovethegarden.com/uk-en/articl...

Entomology friends I need your help! This was found in our garden. What is it? Is it friend or foe to garden plants? Found in Bristol, UK…

As a technician I can often feel undervalued. But things like this make up for it. Remember to always thank and acknowledge your technicians! Without us you can’t do your work…

Opinion: This is too big of a training session to be done online. 4 hours is too much. Would you rather do this online or in person?

I have now been here for 5 days and feel like I should post something useful but I’ve got nothing exciting… so instead here’s my dog being very patient and eyeing up a treat on my leg this morning
